The recently departed oil billionaire T. Boone Pickens has passed away at the age of 91, but the search to find a new owner for his massive Mesa Vista Ranch in Texas has been going on for years now. First listed for sale back in 2017, Pickens's death "probably won't change sale plans," according to a recent Bloomberg report.
The Mesa Vista Ranch, which sprawls across nearly 65,000 acres northeast of the city of Amarillo, is said to be home to the "world's best quail hunting," according to something the property's official listing claims Boone himself was fond of saying. The listing goes on to explain that an abundance of quail is just one byproduct of the ranch's commitment to environmental conservation:
"In an effort to enhance wildlife on the property, over the years Boone has been a leader in conservation practices that are now followed by many other sportsmen in the country. As a testament to Boone's conservation efforts, in 2008 he was named the recipient of the prestigious Park Cities Quail Unlimited Lifetime Sportsman Award."
The ranch's $250 million asking price makes it one of the most expensive real estate listings in the entire country, but it's far from a simple ranch with all kinds of amenities and features in addition to the expansive main lodge and lake house, including a golf course, a pub, a dog kennel, and even a movie theater. As the listing explains:
"The sale of the Mesa Vista Ranch is basically 'turnkey,' including all rolling stock, equipment, pickup trucks, hunting vehicles, farming equipment, furnishings, bird dogs, etc. The only exclusions are Boone's personal effects, livestock, and his vast art collection. The livestock is available to be purchased separately, as is most of the art collection. To our knowledge, no other ranch can replicate Boone's Mesa Vista Ranch."
A property like this doesn't sell overnight, though, hence its being on the market since 2017. But before his death, a quotation in the listing from Pickens himself shows that he wished for a buyer who cannot just afford the property, but who will put the same amount of care into it as well: "You do everything to make the land perfect, hoping the next owner has the same passion."
Whether that next owner might be you or not, you can take a look at the $250 million Mesa Vista Ranch in the video below from the property's own official YouTube channel. Enjoy:
