Serena Williams has dominated the tennis court for the better part of two decades. Now, she's helping other people dominate off the court. Williams has publicly announced the details of her venture capital firm Serena Ventures – and it's pretty incredible what she's helped entrepreneurs achieve.
Serena Ventures has quietly been humming since 2014, but Williams just announced the details of the firm this month via an Instagram post.
On the company's website, Williams stressed that Serena Ventures serves a unique purpose. Her goal is to help women and people of color gain opportunities to reach success across a number of industries. Serena Ventures has invested in more than 30 companies in the food, fashion, health and wellness, and e-commerce industries.
Serena Ventures will also mentor young founders and up and coming entrepreneurs. Williams is listed on the site as one of two employees, the other being Alison Rapaport, a former JPMorgan asset manager. Rapaport will help oversee asset management and determine new investments to add to the company's portfolio.
The company's portfolio includes several female-led companies, including nutrition company OLLY; LOLA, a tampon subscription service; online marketplace Teespring; and Tonal, an intelligent fitness system.
"I launched Serena Ventures with the mission of giving opportunities to founders across an array of industries," Williams said in her announcement. "Serena Ventures invests in companies that embrace diverse leadership, individual empowerment, creativity and opportunity."
