What Is Greg Behrendt's Net Worth?

Greg Behrendt is an American stand-up comedian and author who has a net worth of $2.5 million. Greg Behrendt is probably best known for co-writing the 2004 book "He's Just Not That Into You" with Liz Tuccillo. In 2009, the book was made into a movie of the same title, starring Drew Barrymore. Greg also somewhat famously worked as a script supervisor on "Sex and the City." Behrendt has written four books and hosted several TV talk shows.

Early Life

Greg Behrendt was born Gregory Paul Behrendt on July 21, 1963, in San Francisco, California. Throughout high school, he enjoyed playing rugby and other sports and also had an interest in dramatic arts, though he did not fully explore this interest until college. Greg attended the University of Oregon with the intention of studying business. However, he ultimately earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in theater, graduating in 1991.

Career

After graduating from college, Behrendt moved to San Francisco. There, he joined an improvisational comedy troupe and met Margaret Cho, another comic. During the early years of his career, he performed comedy and improv in San Francisco as a member of the improv troupe Crash and Burn. Cho was also a member of the troupe. Around this time, Greg also met and performed with comics Patton Oswalt and David Cross. Behrendt and Cross were also roommates for a number of years.

As he continued to develop his comedic skills, Greg got more and more opportunities at the national level. He began booking comedy spots on "The Tonight Show" and "Late Night with Conan O'Brien." By the mid-2000s, he began developing his own stand-up specials. In January 2006, his first special, "Greg Behrendt is Uncool," debuted on Comedy Central. In June 2006, he appeared on "Celebrity Poker Showdown." All his winnings were donated to a domestic violence charity.

In September 2006, his daily daytime talk show, "The Greg Behrendt Show," premiered on Superstition WGN. As the host, Greg usually had couples as guests and discussed various relationship issues with them. Other episodes of the show focused on giving guests makeovers. In January 2007, the show was canceled, and it aired its final episodes in February 2007. Reruns of the show were aired until September of that year.

Behrendt also did a mid-season program for the 2006 to 2007 television season called "Greg Behrendt's Wake-Up Call" for ABC. The show ultimately never aired on the network. However, it began airing in January 2009 on ABC's sister cable network, SoapNet. In 2010, he also appeared as a guest at the Melbourne Comedy Festival. He participated in a debate at the festival on the topic of whether food was better than sex. He was on a team with New Zealand comedian Cal Wilson and English comedian Russell Kane. His team won the event.

In 2009, Behrendt released a second comedy special called "That Guy From That Thing." He re-released much of the material from his first special, "Greg Behrendt is Uncool," in 2011 in a newly cut special called "Original Uncool." He didn't release his next special until 2018 when he released "Why Are You In Here?"

In addition to his work as a comedian, Behrendt has had a successful career as a writer. Along with co-author Liz Tuccillo, he co-wrote the 2004 self-help book "He's Just Not That Into You." The following year, they released "Pocket Guide to He's Just Not That Into You: The No-excuses Truth to Understanding Guys." The original book was later adapted into a script by Drew Barrymore's production company, Flower Films. A movie of the same name premiered in February 2009. The film starred an ensemble cast of Ben Affleck, Jennifer Aniston, Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Connelly, Kevin Connolly, Bradley Cooper, Ginnifer Goodwin, Scarlett Johansson, and Justin Long.

In 2006, Greg released the book "It's Called a Breakup Because It's Broken: The Smart Girl's Break-Up Buddy." He co-authored the book with his wife, Amiira Ruotola-Behrendt. A couple years later, the duo wrote "It's Just a Date: How to Get 'em, How to Read 'em, and How to Rock 'em." The book was released in the United Kingdom. In 2018, they published "How to Keep Your Marriage from Sucking: The Keys to Keep Your Wedlock Out of Deadlock."

Additionally, in the early 2000s, Behrendt worked as a script consultant for the HBO sitcom "Sex and the City." He often offered notes from the perspective of a straight man, given that the script was written by a team comprising of mostly women and gay men, and the storylines of the show often centered around the female characters' interactions with straight men.

In 2010, Behrendt started the comedy podcast "Walking the Room" with fellow comedian Dave Anthony. The show primarily features conversations between the two hosts, though they also occasionally have guests. In July 2014, the podcast went on an extended hiatus while Greg was working in New York City. It officially ended a few months later in October.

Personal Life

Behrendt is married to Amiira Ruotola. The couple has two daughters, Mighty Luna and Bella True. Greg is a recovering alcoholic and sometimes attends Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. He enjoys playing guitar and has his own rockabilly instrumental band called The Reigning Monarchs.

In June 2015, Behrendt announced that he was battling cancer and had already undertaken three rounds of chemotherapy. He had a form of lymphoma that was in remission as of late 2015.

Real Estate

In 2005, Greg paid $1.875 million for a home in Studio City, California. He sold this home in 2016 for $1.6 million.
